Lasting Powers of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that enables you to appoint someone who you know and trust to make decisions on your behalf in the event that you become incapable.

By making a Lasting Power of Attorney it can solve a lot of heartache and worry at a later date, should something happen to affect your ability to make decisions and manage your affairs. Illness and injury can happen to any one of us at any time.

There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney.

Property and Financial Affairs

  • Buying or selling property
  • Paying household bills and expenses
  • Operating, opening, closing Bank/Building Society Accounts
  • Claiming and receiving benefits and pensions

Health and Welfare

  • Giving or refusing consent to particular types of health care, including medical treatment decisions
  • Making a decision to stay in your own home, possibly with help and support
  • Making a decision to move into a residential home and choosing a home suitable for you
  • Dealing with day to day care such as daily routine and diet

We don’t know what the future holds. We can hope for the best, but it makes sense to plan for the worst.
